Heat

Which windows are heating, and which are closing.

Most trackers report what already happened. Heat looks at the second derivative — is demand growth itself speeding up or slowing — and pairs it with how fast supply is saturating (incumbents staffing up, competitors getting funded). Every score below traces to a real, dated datum; where the data is thin or measurement-inconsistent, we say so and mark it low confidence rather than dress it up.

Scoreboard

The whole board, at a glance.

Demand acceleration runs -100 (cooling fast) to +100 (accelerating). Supply velocity runs 0 to 100 (saturating fast). Ordered heating first, closing last.

Methodology & honest limits

What this can and cannot claim.

Heat scores whether each vertical's opportunity window is heating (demand accelerating) or crowding/closing (supply saturating). Every score traces to a real, dated datum; thin or discontinuous signals are marked low confidence rather than dressed up.

  1. Demand acceleration is a second derivative — is growth itself speeding up or slowing — not a level. Adoption earns high confidence only inside a measurement-consistent run; snapshot lanes remain confidence-capped until they accumulate enough history.
  2. Adoption download/star series in this repo stitch a curated early window to later live-fetched points, creating 3x–7x jumps in mid-June 2026. Those breaks are detected and excluded; acceleration is computed only within the most recent consistent regime, and the excluded break is named in each driver's source.
  3. The change ledger inflates weekly because the daily sweep grows, so each vertical is normalized to its SHARE of weekly activity before the 2nd difference. The ledger is only ~4 ISO weeks deep and its early weeks reflect onboarding, so ledger-only reads are LOW confidence. The current partial ISO week (2026-W33) is excluded.
  4. Hiring role counts and funding are supply saturation/velocity inputs only — never demand acceleration.
  5. GitHub trending and patents add bounded demand evidence; Product Hunt launch density adds bounded supply crowding; regulatory deadlines add demand only to explicitly tagged verticals. A single snapshot record cannot set a strong band by itself, and each new lane is capped at medium confidence until it has at least 8 weeks of data.
  6. Freshness SLA: when the newest datapoint in a contributing lane is more than 21 days older than asOf, every driver in that lane is marked stale and the vertical's confidence is capped at low.
  7. Low-confidence rows cannot claim a strong directional window: an "opening" softens to "warming" and a "closing" softens to "steady".

Vocabulary is deliberately consistent with the Intelligence dashboard's lifecycle timing (opening / watch / closing) — Heat is the accelerating-signal view of the same map.
